Metz learned just last month that 9-year-old Liam had an 11-centimeter cancerous tumor in his hip — and it had spread throughout his body, Metz detailed on a GoFundMe page she launched for her family.
She has been using the GoFundMe page to raise money for Liam’s chemotherapy treatments and surgeries.
On July 9, Liam was admitted back into the hospital after a serious fever.
Metz's goal right now, she says, is simply to keep her son comfortable.
“Liam got to see some fireworks," she wrote earlier this month. "It looks like he has angels surrounding him. So far we have been dealing with the effects of chemo at home. He’s been extremely sick but he’s strong."
Metz’s words have touched 230 donors on the page and the family has raised $15,070 of their $150,000 goal.
On July 16, just one month after Liam’s diagnosis, Grow Depot in Virginia Beach will host a fundraising event with different vendors and raffles, all for the Metz family.
